Oppo has been teasing the launch of Oppo F7 for the past few weeks and the most prominent change coming to the device is the notch. The smartphone will feature a notch at the top of the display similar to that of the iPhone X. The notch will not house any sophisticated depth sensing camera tech like iPhone’s TrueDepth camera but it will support face unlock feature using its front camera. Since the launch of iPhone X, it had become clear that other smartphone makers will soon copy the design. At Mobile World Congress 2018, Asus and other smartphone makers launched new devices with a notch covering the front camera and other sensors. Oppo F7 is expected to have a design very similar to that of the rumored Oppo R15.
While the details regarding Oppo F7 remain scant at the moment, Oppo India is teasing the notched display as “Super Full Screen”. The rumors suggest Oppo F7 will feature a 6.2-inch display with Full HD+ resolution and taller 19:9 aspect ratio. The smartphone is said to have 89.09 percent screen-to-body ratio.
The Oppo F7 will be a selfie-centric smartphone so one can expect a high-resolution image sensor at the front. Some reports claim it will feature a 25-megapixel selfie camera with AI enhancements, similar to that of F5. The teasers indicate support for features like bokeh and portrait mode. The smartphone will be launched in the presence of three Indian cricketers namely Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya, and Ravichandran Ashwin.
Oppo, like other smartphone players, has seen a marginal decline in its market share in India. The company, which has focused primarily on selfie-centric mobile devices, has seen pressure from Xiaomi, which has managed to offer superior value for money devices. The Oppo F7 is expected to be the design that OnePlus will adopt for its flagship OnePlus 6 smartphone.
