Facebook accused of collecting metadata
Last week, Facebook came under fire for the mega breach of trust after it discovered that Cambridge Analytica, a data firm, had access to users’ personal information which was used to develop tools that allegedly helped influence US Presidential Elections in 2017. Adding to Facebook’s worries, users have discovered that the social networking platform had been gathering data including telephone numbers, contact names, call length, and text messages from years. However, Facebook has denied the allegations that it collected call data surreptitiously. This comes after CEO Mark Zuckerberg issued a newspaper ad to apologize for the Cambridge Analytica scandal.

A day ahead of the official launch, full specifications of the Huawei P20 and P20 Pro were revealed today by a German retailer. There had been nothing left for us to know about the upcoming ‘triple camera’ smartphone, and today’s leak again confirms most reports from the past. The retailer, Saturn, suggests that the Huawei P20 will sport a combination of a 20-megapixel and a 12-megapixel camera setup, while the premium variant, the Huawei P20 Pro, will have a triple camera combination of 40-megapixel, 20-megapixel and 8-megapixel sensors. Interestingly, the new leak does not mention the third variant, P20 Lite, which has shown up in majority of previous leaks.
MIUI 9 global beta ROM for Redmi Note 5 Pro
The Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro shipped in India with Android Nougat with MIUI 9 layered atop. But now it is possible to flash the MIUI 9 global beta ROM for the Redmi Note 5 Pro on devices in India, which will bring Android Oreo to devices. It is to be noted that this is not the official roll out of the latest OS update, and is provided through a third-party website. If you are unwilling to wait for the official, also reliable, version, you can consider heading to the website called FunkyHuawei.club and get the MIUI 9 based on Android Oreo.
WhatsApp QR payments
Two new features could soon show up on WhatsApp for Android. One of the features adds advanced GIF search option to the app. The feature has been spotted on the beta version 2.18.93 of the app. The feature categorizes GIFs into Trending, LOL, Love, Sad, Happy, and Dancing. However, it is currently left disabled by developers as it needs refinement.
The second feature spotted today is related to the payment services on the platform. In the same beta version, users are also able to see the QR code based payment feature. Akin to a lot of other QR-based payment services, the WhatsApp feature allows you to use the QR scanning option to transfer money by entering UPI PIN for verification.
