Oppo will launch its next selfie-centric smartphone in India today. Oppo F7, the successor to Oppo F5, will be launched at an event in Mumbai today. The smartphone will debut in the presence of Indian cricketers Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya and Ravichandran Ashwin.
Ahead of the launch, Oppo has already teased the device including a render confirming what the smartphone will look like. The Chinese smartphone maker is expected to announce Oppo F7, Oppo F7 128GB and Oppo F7 Youth tomorrow. The smartphone is seen as an attempt to stay competitive in the sub-Rs 30,000 segment and will compete against the recently launched Vivo V9 and Xiaomi’s Redmi Note 5 Pro.
Here is what we know so far about the Oppo F7:
The Oppo F7 will be the first smartphone from the Chinese company to feature a notched display in India. Oppo F7 will feature a half square shaped notch that will house the sensors and front-facing camera. The notch will reminiscent of iPhone X to many but Oppo says it submitted patent for the notch design back in January 2017 and got formal patent in September 2017. The patent includes multiple design including a semi-circle, inverted triangle, half square, semi-ellipse, half-arc etc.
The Oppo F7 will feature a 6.2-inch Super Full Screen display with a resolution of 2280 x 1080 pixels similar to Vivo V9. The display sport an aspect ratio of 19:9 and will have thinner bezels surrounding the display. The smartphone will also include software features to ensure easy navigation with the notch surrounding the top portion of the display.
A leaked specifications sheet of the device reveals that it will be powered by a MediaTek Helio P60 octa-core SOC coupled with 6GB of RAM and 128GB storage. Oppo might also announce a variant with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage.
Apart from the design, the Oppo F7’s major attraction will be the 25-megapixel front camera with AI beautification feature. The back of the device will sport a standard 16-megapixel image sensor. Other details include support for facial unlock feature along with Color OS 5.0.
Oppo is surely doubling down on selfie feature here with a design that closely matches that of iPhone X’s edge-to-edge display design. The smartphone is expected to be priced under Rs 26,000 and it needs to seen whether Oppo can price it better than Vivo.
