Oppo is bringing back its R series of smartphones to India with Oppo R17 Pro on December 4. The Chinese company has sent out media invites for the India launch event which will happen in Mumbai. Recently, Oppo India had put up a video gif on its official Twitter account as a teaser.
Now, in the official invite Oppo has confirmed to launch the R17 Pro. The smartphone was first launched in China in August alongside lower variant Oppo R17.
The Oppo R17 Pro was launched for RMB 4,299 (roughly Rs 43,000) in China, and looking at the price segment, it could launch somewhere around Rs 45,000 in India as well. Over the past few years, Oppo hasn’t released the R-series smartphones in India, so it’ll be a comeback for Oppo R series phones after the Oppo R5.
The Oppo R17 Pro comes with a new fog gradient color scheme that uses 3D fog glass and a new condensing grading process. Oppo during its China launch said the colors blend as such that it gives a flow with the light and shadow on R17 Pro’s back.
The smartphone boats of a triple rear camera setup including a 12-megapixel sensor with dual aperture lens (f/1.5 – f/2.4), same as the one we have seen on the Galaxy Note 9, and the Galaxy S9+. The second is a 20-megapixel sensor and a Time of Flight (TOF) 3D Sensing camera that can get high-precision 3D depth information through nanosecond infrared light measurement.
The smartphone flaunts an in-display fingerprint sensor for the 6.4-inch AMOLED display with waterdrop style notch and screen-to-body ratio of 91.5 percent. The screen is covered with Corning Gorilla Glass 6 protection. Under the hood is a Snapdragon 710 SoC with an octa-core CPU, paired with 8GB of RAM and 128GB storage.

Besides the triple rear cameras, the smartphone also comes with a 25-megapixel front camera of aperture f/2.0. It packs a generous 3,700mAh battery that is separated into two halves of 1,850mAh each. This enables 50W SuperVOOC charging technology that Oppo introduced with the Lamborghini Edition of Find X, promising 40 percent charge in flat 10 minutes.
