At an event in China, Oppo announced Hyper Boost, a software acceleration engine that is aimed at offering system-level performance optimization. The Oppo R17 and R17 Pro will be first smartphones to get the feature. The company noted that the optimization improves performance in three key areas – system, apps and games.
Hyper Boost will bring a feature called Behaviour-Aware Scheduling (BAS) which will dynamically adjust the frequency of hardware in units to 0.2 milliseconds. This will be done using a newly designed Linux task scheduler and will bring significant improvements to the system operations. In comparison, Android’s Linux kernel adjusts frequency of underlying hardware units in 20 milliseconds, MyDrivers reports.
Ryan Chen, Head of the Software Research Center of the OPPO Research Institute, said, “Our journey toward improving the system performance of smartphones dates back to 2015. Today we are proud to see the launch of OPPO Hyper Boost, the result of constant improvements and optimizations. Its ability to optimize resource allocation on Android systems helps overcome the power consumption and performance challenges when smartphones are running heavy-load applications. This cutting-edge technology has demonstrated our industry-leading strength in technical innovation and our commitment to bringing the best experience to our users.”

Oppo has partnered Tencent, Netease, and three other major game engines to optimize gaming performance of over 100 mobile games. Currently, 11 popular games have been optimized, the company said. Talking about app optimizations, Oppo has worked with WeChat, QQ, and Mobile Taobao.
To further enhance the features of Hyper Boost, Oppo will be adding AI in the future. The company also plans to partner more game vendors and app developers to expand the catalog of support games and apps. Now, while the feature will be making its way to the Oppo R17 and Oppo R17 Pro, there is no word on when it will be rolled out.
