Oppo’s latest upper mid-range smartphones could be coming soon, according to new information and leaks from TENAA, as well as ads spotted in the background of a game show in China. The new Oppo R17 and Oppo R17 Pro are the successors to the Oppo R15 and R15 Pro, which were launched in March this year. The new phones will compete in the premium device segment, but aren’t quite as high-end as the company’s flagship device, the Oppo Find X.
The Oppo R17 has details of its screen revealed, and the device will come with a 6.3-inch full-HD+ 19:9 aspect ratio OLED display. The phone is also expected to feature a dual-camera setup at the rear, and the leak goes on to state that there will be a 3,415mAh battery as well. The phone is expected to come with face unlock, which is made all the more likely by the lack of a fingerprint sensor visible in the leaked images.
The Oppo R17 Pro has some additional details revealed about its specifications, suggesting that the phone will come with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 SoC, 6GB of RAM, 128GB of storage and a 16-megapixel camera at the back (as the primary camera). The higher variant is also likely to sport face unlock without a fingerprint sensor.

Both phones will be launched some time in the coming weeks, and are likely to be kept exclusive to China for now. Oppo has not launched its R-series in India, instead going straight from the Rs 21,990 Oppo F7 to the recently-launched Rs 59,990 Oppo Find X. The space in between isn’t tapped adequately by Oppo, and it’s possible that we could see the Oppo R17 series launch in India as Oppo improves its focus on the premium smartphone space.
