Oppo today announced it will launch its thinnest R5 smartphone in India. The device, as previously rumored is priced at Rs 29,990, and will be available for pre-booking from January 1. The company hasn’t announced when it will start shipping the smartphone. The Oppo R5’s talking point is its 4.85mm thickness making it the second most slimmest phone in the world, the first one being the Vivo X5 Max which is just 4.75mm thick.
As far as the specifications go, the Oppo R5 flaunts a 5.2-inch full HD AMOLED display with a pixel density of 423ppi. It is powered by a 64-bit Snapdragon 615 octa-core processor paired with 2GB of RAM. It houses 16GB of internal storage capacity.
The R5 features a 13-megapixel rear camera with PI 2.0 Plus Flash Shot technology that has a focus time of 0.18 seconds. It also houses a 5-megapixel front facing camera for selfie lovers.
It packs a 2,000mAh battery, and has connectivity options like micro-SIM support, LTE, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. Just like the flagship device, the battery on the R5 too supports VOOC rapid charging technology. On the software front, it runs on Color OS 2.0, which is based on Android KitKat.
As for the design, Oppo has included a metallic casing with ceramic finishing. With such thinness, phones tend to heat up, and to avoid that Oppo has included a Cool Element tech which uses liquid metal-like material to cool down the phone. But to attain the R5’s thinness, Oppo had to leave out the 3.5mm audio jack. Instead it bundles a pair of headphones that connect to the phone’s micro-USB port.
