OPPO has been riding on the selfie craze this year with its main focus being on manufacturing selfie-centric smartphones. This has proved to be a success for the Chinese smartphone maker, as recent reports said that OPPO is now the leader with 23 percent market share in its home market. OPPO is followed by Huawei with 17.4 percent and Vivo with 12 percent. OPPO s market share rose so high that its total market share is more than both Apple and Samsung combined. Talking about selfie-centric smartphones, a new smartphone has been spotted online, dubbed R9S. As the name suggests, this upcoming smartphone seems to be the successor to the selfie-centric R9, which was launched back in March. The highlight of the R9, as well as the R9 Plus, was the front-facing 16-megapixel camera. Now, a teaser has been spotted online with the tagline — ‘TheNextOne’. GizmoChina reports that it could be the OPPO R9S, which is rumored to be launching later this year. Not surprisingly, the teaser too hints the highlight of the upcoming smartphone too will be the front-facing camera.
OPPO R9S specifications
The OPPO R9S recently passed the TENNA certification giving us a fair idea on what to expect. Like the R9, the upcoming R9S too will come with a 16-megapixel selfie camera, and a 13-megapixel primary camera.
The major difference though is likely to be under the hood. The R9 was powered by a MediaTek MT6755 octa-core chipset, but the R9S is expected to be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 625 chipset. It will however retain the 4GB RAM. Like its predecessor, the upcoming smartphone is also expected to come with a fingerprint scanner embedded into the home button up front. Another talking point of the upcoming R9S will be OPPO’s Super VOOC fast charging technology, which was introduced at Mobile World Congress (MWC) earlier this year. The Super VOOC fast charging technology charges a smartphone from five to 100 percent in just 15 minutes. OPPO had even demonstrated it by charging a smartphone with a 2,500mAh battery and which turned out to be successful. OPPO s Super VOOC technology uses a low voltage 5V charger which is advantageous over existing fast charging technologies from the likes of Qualcomm and MediaTek. The VOOC charger is said to keep the smartphone cool, improve charging efficiency and also prevent any sort of battery damage.
Though there is no official word from OPPO, multiple reports claim that the R9S will be launched later this month on October 19.
