Having already established itself as a force to be reckoned with in India’s highly-competitive smartphone market, Xiaomi has set its sights on the consumer electronics space. To that end, the Chinese technology major brought its Mi TV range of affordable smart televisions to the country earlier this year. And if the latest numbers are any indication, it seems that the company is well on track to dominate the TV segment as well.
Xiaomi has announced that over the past nine months, it shipped more than a million Mi TVs in the country. The figure indicates combined sales of all variants/models of Mi TVs sold by the company across all channels, both online and offline. Considering that Xiaomi’s TVs compete against products from much bigger and well-known consumer electronics companies, this surely appears to be an impressive achievement.
Back in August, Xiaomi had said that it sold about half a million TVs in India over six months. This means that it took the company just three months to double that number. This increase can be attributed to the Diwali season sales, which the company has been running for the past few weeks.
Last month, a report by IDC revealed that Xiaomi led the Smart TV segment in India in the second quarter of 2018. Making its debut in the segment in Q1 2018, Xiaomi tripled its shipments over the next quarter, becoming the leader in the category.

India is clearly a key market for Xiaomi, and the company has been aggressively expanding its product line-up in the country. Recently, it launched a new series of Smart TVs, Mi Band 3 fitness tracker, Mi Air Purifier 2S, Mi Home Security Camera 360, and Mi Luggage in India.
