Panasonic has announced its first dual-camera smartphone Eluga Ray 500 will be available across leading retail outlets starting today. The smartphone was launched exclusively on Flipkart at Rs 8,999 in September, and will now be available from offline retailers at the same price. The Eluga Ray 500 features a 5-inch HD IPS display with a resolution of 1280×720 pixels with 2.5D curved glass on top. The smartphone is powered by quad-core MediaTek MT6737 chipset clocked at 1.25GHz coupled with 3GB RAM and 32GB internal storage. The highlight of the device is its dual rear camera setup featuring 13-megapixel primary image sensor with f/2.0 aperture, and an 8-megapixel secondary sensor with f/2.4 aperture. The rear camera supports 1080p video recording at 30 frames per second, and is accompanied by a LED flash. There is also a 5-megapixel front camera with f/2.4 aperture and support for HDR mode.
In terms of connectivity, the Eluga Ray 500 supports Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, 4G LTE and dual-SIM network. There is a front fingerprint sensor, FM Radio and it runs Android 7.0 Nougat. It weighs around 163 grams and is backed by a 4,000mAh battery.
“We have received tremendous demand for Eluga Ray 500, our first dual camera phone and therefore have decided to make it available in the offline channel as well at all leading retail stores. The Eluga 500 has been a great success in the online channel and we believe we will be able to replicate this success in the offline channel too,” said Pankaj Rana, Business Head Mobility Division, Panasonic India.
Most smartphone makers are now shifting their focus from online-centric sales model to offline retail space. Xiaomi, Honor and Lenovo have launched their own retail stores or partnered with a major retailer to expand their presence in the offline space. The companies are trying to gain some market share from Samsung, Oppo and Vivo, which have extensive presence in offline segment.
With the availability of Eluga Ray 500 in the offline space, Panasonic is also vying for some action in a space that is widely seen as a growth sector for smartphone brands. The offline expansion should also help the company expand its offerings to Tier II and Tier III cities.
