Pebble, the Kickstarter-backed makers of the first ever smartwatch have launched its range of smartwatches in India. With prices starting from Rs 5,999, the smartwatches are exclusively available via Amazon India. One of the main highlights of the Pebble smartwatches is the always-on e-paper display, which is similar to the one we have already seen on Amazon’s Kindle Paperwhite e-book readers, and battery life of up to seven days or more. Pebble Classic
The Pebble Classic was the company’s very first smartwatch which comes with a plastic body and silicon straps. Priced at Rs 5,999, it features an always-on E-paper, water resistant up to 50 meters and a battery life of up to seven days. With more than a thousand watch faces to choose from, the Pebble Classic offers notifications from emails, SMS, calls and calendars, music controls and more, right on your wrist. It is available in four different color options – white, black, pink and red. While Cloudtail, the official Amazon India vendor is offering it for Rs 5,999, there are third-party vendors who are charging Rs 8,600 or more. Pebble Time
The Pebble Time is a slightly advanced version of the Pebble Classic. It comes with an aluminum frame and silicon straps. It features a 1.25-inch color E-paper always-on display with LED backlight, water resistance of up to 30 meters and battery life of up to seven days. The Pebble Time also comes in a built in mic for voice notes and voice dictation, and fitness tracker that can track your steps, sleep monitoring and more. Priced at Rs 9,999, it is available in three different colors — white, black and red. It also offers you with calendar alerts, text messages and email notifications right on your wrist. Pebble Time Steel
This one is similar to the Pebble Time in terms of features and functionality. However, the Pebble Time Steel comes with a stainless steel chassis, bezel and strap. With battery life of up to 10 days, 1.25-inch color E-paper display with LED backlight and water resistance of up to 30 meters, it is available for Rs 15,999 in three different colors — black, silver and gold.
Pebble Time Round
Lastly, the Pebble Time Round comes with a circular display. The company also claims that it is their lightest and thinnest smartwatch. With a size of 14mm and available in black and silver color options, the Pebble Time Round is likely to appeal to the women. With a battery life of two days, even 15 minutes worth charging can offer full day’s worth usage, the company claims. With an always-on color E-paper display and splash resistance features, the Pebble Time Round will set you back by Rs 13,599.
None of the Pebble watch comes with a touchscreen display, and to go scroll through the menu and UI, there are four buttons. The left edge has one button for back (or to exit to homescreen), whereas the right edge has three buttons – up, down and menu (select). It features a Timeline UI, wherein pressing the up button offers a glance at the past events (calendars, sports, emails and more), and pressing the down button offers a glance at future events (weather, calendar appointments, birthdays and more.
The Pebble Range of smartwatches are compatible with Android 4.0.3 and higher, and iOS 8 and higher. It runs on its own customized OS and you’ll need to download the Pebble app from Google Play or iTunes Store to work. While there are a lot of free apps and watchfaces to choose from, in terms of functionality it is nowhere close to what Google’s Android Wear and Apple’s WatchOS has to offer.
