Pebble, the popular smartwatch manufacturer today unveiled the third iteration of its smart timepiece. Called the Pebble Time, the smartwatch brings with it a number of new features including a new color e-display, while maintaining strong 7-day battery life with the screen left on. But perhaps the most important feature in the Time is its new UI. And even more enticing, the company has announced that both the past generations of Pebble smartwatches will be receiving the UI. A lot has changed since Pebble launched its first smartwatch in 2013. The smartwatch space has become more crowded with a number of Android Wear-powered timepieces, Microsoft s Band, and Tizen-powered timepieces. But one thing that all of these companies have struggled to get right so far is the user interface. How do you make an interface that doesn t appear counterproductive, or a crunched down version of smartphone s interface. Each segment of the Timeline has a dedicated button, making it easier to navigate across your workflow. Missing the apps? Pressing a center button shows up the apps in at-a-glance thumbnails, which can be scrolled through. Users can install a plenty of apps on the watch and can place things like notifications and other things right on the homescreen. The Pebble and the Pebble Steel will be receiving the Timeline UI too. The company hasn t mentioned how soon, however.
