On Monday, the Pentagon released footage of declassified videos that show pilots of the US Navy encountering what looked like unidentified flying objects. The three videos show strangely shaped flying objects in the sky in three different settings. The grainy videos were previously leaked, sparking controversy around them being alien UFOs. The Pentagon released the footage “to clear up any misconceptions by the public on whether or not the footage that has been circulating was real or whether or not there is more to the videos,” a statement on the Department of Defense website said, as per a report by The Guardian. “After a thorough review, the department has determined that the authorized release of these unclassified videos does not reveal any sensitive capabilities or systems, and does not impinge on any subsequent investigations of military air space incursions by unidentified aerial phenomena,” the statement added. The videos had been circulating in the public domain after leaks took place in 2007 and 2017. The phenomena observed in the videos remain characterized as ‘unidentified’. Pilots observed the same during training flights in 2004 and again in 2015. The New York Times published two of the clips in 2017. The To The Stars Academy of Arts and Science group released the other clip.
Now leaked by the Pentagon, the videos have their credibility. The clips will now likely attract more speculation on the possibility of extraterrestrials on Earth. The videos will add to countless stories of people having encountered aliens before. These include similar strange sightings in the sky as well as close encounters of the third kind. This is when people claim to have been visited by aliens themselves. Harry Reid, former Senate Democratic leader from Nevada shared in a tweet that the three clips “only scratches the surface of research and materials available”.
