Imgur, the popular viral images and image-memes sharing site has made a debut on the mobile platform, launching its first app on the Android platform. The app which has been on the mobile platform since April as a beta has finally been given a full release and is available as a free download on the Google Play Store.
The app, as expected, lets users upload, share and discover new photos and also lets others comment on them. According to Imgur CEO Alan Schaaf, the company decided to build for mobile after seeing a dramatic increase in mobile visits – up from 7 percent in January 2011 to around 30 percent at the beginning of 2013. Additionally, Imgur developers have also teased that they will be introducing new features in the coming months that would let users create new content, though it is not clear how these features would work. The developers have also mentioned that they are currently working on an iOS version of the app, which should be arriving in the coming weeks.
