In what is a one-of-a-kind marketing stunt, Pizza Hut is delivering more than just your jalapeño-topped pizza. In Hong Kong the pizza chain is delivering in specially-designed boxes that can convert into a movie projector of sorts.
This marketing gimmick is the brainchild of Ogilvy & Mather group, which has essentially added an extra compartment in the box, as well as a hole for the lens. The pizza table has a lens on top of it, pop out the cardboard hole on the side of the pizza box and fit the said lens there. On the inside, prop your smartphone on the pizza table and the contents of your smartphone will be beamed onto a surface, magnified by the lens.
As a part of the campaign, Pizza Hut has four different boxes depicting the free movie users get with the pizza. Buyers can choose from Slice Night (horror), Hot & Ready (romance), Anchovy Armageddon (sci-fi), and Fully Loaded (action). As seen in the above photos, these boxes have been given some pretty rad artwork, and they are called “Blockbuster Box.”
You will need a pretty dark room to be able to see the video on the wall, and the visuals will be far from HD quality. Furthermore, with the box closed, it would be interesting to see just how loud the audio is from your smartphone.
