According to the PlayStation blog by Neill Glancy, the creative director of New IP at Aspyr Media, Torn takes place in the mansion of a physicist who disappeared 64 years ago. The mansion is filled with strange, Willy Wonka inspired machines that are haphazardly installed into its walls and floors. The mystery question of the game is what these machines are and what happened to the people who built them. Also Read - Sony reveals new list of free games under its Play At Home initiative
Players would have to find a strange tool that manipulates gravity, and would have to use that to move around objects to find hidden circuits and mechanisms behind them. The objective is to activate the machines to bring the mansion back online. The blog adds that things will start to get interesting once players start bringing the mansion online.
Torn has been in the works for a year and half, and the developers took interest in the early VR games and were inspired to create a long form suspense story.
We wanted to submerge players in a world of unparalleled beauty, history and physics interactivity. We wanted to create a non-linear world where players could explore at their own pace and feel like they were creating the story themselves, Writes Neill commented on the goal when creating the game.
The studio brought in some extra talent on the project that included writer Susan O connor, who worked on Tomb Raider and Bioshock. The music is composed by Garry Schyman, who composed the scores for Bioshock and Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor.
