While the game wasn’t officially launched in India until now, almost everyone has already played it by downloading the APK file. Explaining the reasons behind delay, Niantic said, “We appreciate your patience during the last few months while we worked on bringing Pok mon GO to your country. The Niantic team had to resolve a few administrative challenges before launching in order to ensure we could provide the best experience possible.” Also Read - How to get free Netflix subscription: Just follow these steps
For those who missed out on the hype, Pok mon GO is an augmented reality game based on the popular anime series. The objective of the game is to capture as many Pok mons as possible, and eventually become a master. Using AR, these Pok mons are superimposed on real-world locations, and one needs to walk or run around to capture them. Real locations have also been turned into Pok mon Gyms for training or Pok Stops for resupplying.
Almost immediately after launch, Pok mon GO became among the most talked about apps globally and has till date amassed over 500 million downloads. But it has not been a smooth ride, and lately there’s been a dip in the downloads as the Pok mon GO fad is slowly cooling. Stats say that downloads have fallen from 79 million in July to less than 10 million in November.
In India, Niantic has also partnered with Reliance Jio for a few exclusive offers to its subscribers. As a part of the deal between the two companies, Reliance Jio retail stores and charging stations across the country will become Pok Stops and Gyms within the game. There is also a new Pok mon GO Channel on JioChat, where avid gamers will interact with each other, share tips and tricks, and also take part in contests and special events.
While Pok mon GO is free to download, it does offer a host of in-app purchases that range from Rs 60 to Rs 6,200. For the game to run you need an Apple device running on iOS 8 and above, or an Android device running on KitKat and above. You can head over to the Google Play Store or the App Store to download the augmented reality mobile game.
