Porn site Brazzers hacked, 800,000 accounts compromised

If you are a regular visitor of Brazzers, it would be a good time to change your account passwords. A hacking attempt in 2012 has put nearly 800,000 users accounts at risk.

Another day, and yet another site has fallen prey to hackers putting nearly 800,000 user accounts on porn site Brazzers at risk. While the cyber attack reportedly took place in 2012, the compromised account information have now made it to the dark web. The attack may was aimed at Brazzersforum, but since both sites shared user accounts even those who have not signed up for the forum are potentially at risk. The company has said that it has taken corrective measures, and Brazzersforum has been taken down for maintenance.

Brazzers forum hackedThe hacked information from Brazzers was first spotted by data breach-monitoring site vigilante.pw, which then passed on the information to Motherboard for verification. According to the site, the hackers were able to get their hands on 790,724 unique email addresses, as well as usernames and passwords stored in plain text. The total breach contained over 900,000 entries, but the publication says many were duplicates. Brazzers’ forums are used as a platform for users to discuss about videos, porn stars, and also request what scenarios should make it to the next video. While the two sites are different, a Brazzers spokesperson has confirmed that the user account details were shared between the platforms for “user convenience.”

“This matches an incident which occurred in 2012 with our ‘Brazzersforum,’ which was managed by a third party. The incident occurred because of a vulnerability in the said third party software, the ‘vBulletin’ software, and not Brazzers itself,” a Brazzers spokesperson told the publication. “That being said, users accounts were shared between Brazzers and the ‘Brazzersforum’ which was created for user convenience. That resulted in a small portion of our user accounts being exposed and we took corrective measures in the days following this incident to protect our users,” he added.

It is unclear why the user accounts were leaked now, when the hack took place almost four years back. It however follows the LinkedIn hack, which too had been compromised before, but information of over 160 million accounts only recently made it to the dark web. In Brazzers’ case, the vulnerability that the hackers seemed to have exploited is being traced to the third-party vBulletin software that powers the site’s forum.

If you are a Brazzers user, it would be a good time to change your password as a precautionary measure. Alternatively, you can head over to haveibeenpwned.com and enter your email address to check if it has been compromised. Most hacked information make their way to the dark web where it is on sale online for anyone to buy and misuse. But sometimes the information can be used to blackmail users as well, as was the case with the massive attack on Ashley Madison earlier this year. ALSO READ: Mark Zuckerberg’s accounts hacked due to weak password; here’s what you can do to protect yours
