President Obama finally joins Twitter for real, sends first tweet from an iPhone

President Barack Obama is finally on Twitter! The world’s most powerful man started Tweeting today from the @POTUS (President of the United States) Twitter account and tweets on the account will directly come from Obama. Also Read - Jack Dorsey resigns, Parag Agrawal is the new Twitter CEO

Of course, there is also a @BarackObama Twitter account but that is managed by his staff and there are occasional tweets by Obama, which are signed off with his initials ‘-bo’. The @POTUS account already has over 332,000 followers in about an hour and just one tweet. This is not Obama’s personal account and would be transferred to whoever succeeds Obama at the White House. The first tweet, which he sent from an iPhone and not his trusty BlackBerry, has already been retweeted over 64,000 times and has been favorited by over 71,000 Twitter users. Obama is just the latest world leader to embrace Twitter. India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi, with over 12.3 million followers, is one of the most prolific Twitter users. Apart from tweeting about his government’s policies and selfies with world leaders, Modi can also been seen retweeting and enjoying Dubsmash videos.
