The Prime Minister Research Fellowship (PMRF) scheme is now open for all science and technology graduates in the country. The ministry of Human Resource Development (HRD) will open the process for registration of students in February 2019 for selection and any student with minimum 8.0 CGPA in B.Tech, and 750 or higher score in the respective GATE subject will be eligible to apply for the fellowship PMRF scheme, according to the official website.
Even the students in final year of B.Tech as well as students pursuing five year integrated M.Tech or five year integrated M.Sc. or 2 year M.Sc. or five year undergraduate-postgraduate dual degree programs in Science and Technology streams will also be able to apply for the PMRF scheme after clearing the GATE with a score of 750 and above. Apart from Tier-I IISc/IITs/NITs/IISERs/IIEST and centrally funded IIIT institutes, students from any other institute/ university recognized in India will be eligible for the program.

“The PMRF selections (to be announced in May 2019) will be open for all the eligible students from the recognized universities and the institutes of science and technology in India from next year,” Deccan Herald quoted an official saying.
Under the PMRF scheme, the website notes that the selected candidates will be entitled for a fellowship of Rs 70,000 per month for the first two years, Rs 75,000 per month for the third year, and Rs.80,000 per month in the fourth and fifth years. Apart from this, each fellowship candidate would be eligible for a research grant of Rs 2 lakhs per year (total Rs10 lakh). The tenure of fellowship will be four years for students from integrated courses and five years for B. Tech (or equivalent) students. The selected students who have completed MTech/MS/ME after completing a qualifying BTech, and join PMRF will get 4 years of fellowship.
“The selection process for the PMRF will be a rigorous process consisting of Screening by the Reviewers, and final selection by the Selection Committee for each research vertical to ensure competition, standardization, transparency and selection of the best talent. The process may also include written test and/or discussions, if necessary,” notes PMRF website.
