Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 is a new AI-first mobile CPU

In the early hours of Thursday, Qualcomm announced Snapdragon 710 as its newest mid-range mobile platform and also the first in company’s new 700-tier portfolio. The CPU is the first in the mid-range segment to be fabricated using the new 10nm process and has an octa-core configuration with two high-performance Kyro architecture and six low-power cores.

With Snapdragon 710, Qualcomm is bringing multi-core AI Engine that it claims can deliver 2x overall performance improvements. It also brings Qualcomm’s Hexagon DSP and Spectra ISP with support for up to 32-megapixel single ISP or 20-megapixel dual ISP. It also enables support for features like face unlock with depth sensing.

WhatsApp has a new bug

WhatsApp has a new bug that critically affects the way the messaging platform works. The new bug affecting both Android and iOS apps allows blocked contacts to send messages to you.

The bug also allows blocked contacts to see a person’s WhatsApp profile photo and status. The bug bricks the fundamental principle of the social messaging application.

Facebook updates two-factor authentication

Facebook has updated the way its users verify themselves using two-factor authentication. The social media giant says it is simplifying its existing two-factor authentication (2FA) system and users will no longer need to share their phone numbers to use 2FA.

It is also finally bringing support for third-party authenticator such as Google Authenticator on the desktop as well as mobile. The change seems to be based on fact that users have been reluctant to share their number with Facebook and hence not using 2FA.

Hackers infect 500,000 consumer routers

Yesterday, Google and Microsoft disclosed a new security loophole in processors and today, it is the turn of routers. Cisco has revealed that hackers have infected over half a million consumer routers all around the world with a self-destructing VPN filter malware.

The report adds that the attack might have to do with Russia preparing to launch a cyberattack with Ukraine. The malware is believed to have hit broadband and WiFi routers from TP-Link, Linksys and Netgear among others.

Reliance Jio adds most subscribers in March

Reliance Jio has once again added the most number of subscribers during the month of March. The Mukesh Ambani-led company added 9.4 million subscribers as opposed to Bharti Airtel and Idea Cellular, who added 8.4 million and 9.1 million subscribers respectively.

Jio’s subscriber addition seems to have been driven by strong demand for JioPhone while that of Idea Cellular’s better performance could be owed to cheaper tariff plan with more data.

Xiaomi announces Mi Credit for India

Xiaomi has announced Mi Credit service in India that offers loans up to Rs 1,00,000 to MIUI users. Using Mi Credit, Xiaomi users can get a personal loan and the procedure is simplified enough to process a loan within 10 minutes.

Xiaomi VP Manu Jain said that Mi Credit is another big step for the company in bringing an important internet service to the country.
