Soon after Apple introduced the TouchID fingerprint sensor on the iPhone 5s, Android smartphone makers also started integrating the biometric authentication medium on their devices. Restricted to flagship smartphones in the beginning, the feature soon made its way to affordable smartphones as well. Right from the likes of OnePlus to Huawei, Honor and Asus among others, everyone is integrating Face Unlock feature, but that are two drawbacks. Firstly, there exist some security concerns, and if that isn’t enough, you can only enroll one face. This a bit disappointing, especially if you share a device with your family member. But that’s about to change as a new report states that the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC supports multiple faces for face unlock. Also Read - Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+ flagship chip to launch in May: Report

Qualcomm hasn’t officially mentioned it anywhere, either during the launch or in the promotional material. However, according to a report on BeeBom, Qualcomm spokesperson mentioned at Mobile World Congress (MWC 2018) Shanghai, that the Snapdragon 845 supports multiple faces for face unlock. Currently, the OnePlus 6, Asus Zenfone 5Z, Oppo Find X, Vivo NEX and others run on the Snapdragon 845 SoC. If indeed the chipset supports multiple face unlock, it is disappointing to see OEMs not taking advantage of the tech. The BeeBom report also mentions that the Snapdragon 710, Snapdragon 660 and Snapdragon 636 supports multiple faces, but an XDA Developers report contradicts the same. We are waiting for an official response from Qualcomm for the same.
