Following reports of the 810 overheating issues, Samsung had gone ahead with its own Exynos chipsets in its flagship smartphones. The move had proven to be a big jolt for Qualcomm, which has had a rough year so far. Samsung s decision to go ahead with the 820 processor is likely to benefit Qualcomm as it looks to sustain its dominance in the mobile chipset market where MediaTek is rapidly expanding its base.
Interestingly, reports about Qualcomm-Samsung exclusive tie up comes shortly after it was rumored that Xiaomi s new flagship Mi 5 will be running the latest 820 processor.
It s worth pointing out here that Xiaomi s chief Lei Jun recently said that the company isn t looking to rush with an 820-powered Mi 5, but will spend time to perfect user experience and emphasize on the mass production. Lei Jun s comments hinted that Xiaomi may prefer to wait and watch the early response to the 820 processor phones.
