Popular gaming laptop, peripherals and smartphone maker Razer has announced a launch event on May 22. There was no indication of a new product launch by Razer, so not much information is available about what will be launched.
The poster of the event teases a rectangular device visible from the side while sitting on what appears to be a horizon line. It seems like a smartphone from one side, and there is a glowing light source behind the suspected smartphone. The glow behind the device appears like a sun near the horizon. The poster of the event was first spotted by Chinese website IT Home. Razer has not issued an information on what device it is planning to launch on May 22.
However, it is unlikely that the company will launch a refreshed Razer Phone as it launched the original Razer Phone back in November last year. The only way it would make sense is that Razer did not launch its gaming-centric Razer Phone in the Chinese market, and this would be an opportunity to tap the market. Otherwise, launching a new device with an updated SoC just six months after the launch of the device will be similar to pulling a OnePlus on its customers.

Considering that the company is launching its Razer Phone in the Chinese market, it is no longer the only player in the market with a “gaming” smartphone. The device will have to compete with Xiaomi’s Black Shark gaming smartphone and Nubia Red Devil.
ASUS is also expected to join the market with its long-rumored ROG-branded gaming smartphone. Despite sporting one generation old chipset, the Razer Phone packs that impressive 2K display with 120 Hz refresh rate, great front-facing speakers, and support for Quick Charge 4+. Though, regardless of the specifications, as pointed by GizmChina, pricing is the key in a price sensitive market such as China.
