Good evening! As we recovered from yesterday’s Monday blues, today was quite an eventful day. Google for India made some important India announcements, Realme 2 launched in India, and Samsung announced the price of J2 Core in India. Ahead of IFA 2018, Huawei’s Mate 20 Lite smartphone has gone official and LG also announced two smartphones in the G7-series, among other news that kept us busy throughout the day. Here are the top news stories that you may have missed today.
Google for India announcements
At the event, Google mentioned that the future of internet in India will be defined by “Voice, Video, and Vernacular.” In line with the recent reports, Google Tez, the cashless payments app, has been rebranded to Google Pay in India. The service will be expanded for merchants, and banks to provide pre-approved loans to Google Pay users.
The Google Go app will now support Hindi, Bengali, Marathi, Malayalam and Tamil languages to read out webpage content in the said languages. The Maps Go app has also been updated with turn-by-turn navigation feature, something that was previously missing from the app.

Realme 2 launched in India
Realme has launched its second smartphone in India, the Realme 2. The smartphone price starts at Rs 8,990, with sales starting at September 4 on Flipkart. The Realme 2 comes with a notched display, dual rear cameras, a fingerprint scanner at the back and a massive 4,230mAh battery. The company also announced that it will soon be launching the Realme 2 Pro smartphone with upgraded specifications, sometime in September.
Samsung Galaxy J2 Core Android Oreo (Go Edition)
After unveiling the Galaxy J2 Core smartphone last week, Samsung has now announced its pricing. The Android Go Edition smartphone is priced at Rs 6,190 and will compete with the highly popular Xiaomi Redmi 5A in the price range.
Meanwhile, Galaxy J4 (32GB) price in India has been slashed once again, and it is now available for Rs 10,990. The flagship Galaxy Note 9 has undergone iFixit teardown treatment, and it has scored low in repairability score with the battery being most difficult to replace.
LG G7 One, G7 Fit announced
Ahead of IFA 2018, LG has announced two new smartphones in the G7-series. The G7 One is an Android One running smartphone powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC. It features a 6.1-inch QHD+ FullVision panel with a notch on top and 19.5:9 aspect ratio. It is the first Android One smartphone to boast such a high-resolution display.
LG also announced the G7 Fit smartphone which features the same high-resolution display as the G7 One, but it is powered by a two-year old Snapdragon 821 SoC. The smartphone also comes with IP68 certification for water and dust resistance.
Huawei Mate 20 Lite announced
According to a Gartner report released earlier today, Huawei has overtaken Apple to be the world’s second largest smartphone maker. Huawei will be present at IFA 2018, and the company will be making some announcements, and ahead of the keynote, the Mate 20 Lite has gone official.
The Mate 20 Lite comes with a 6.3-inch notched display, and is powered by a Kirin 710 SoC. You get dual rear cameras at the back, a fingerprint scanner, and Android 8.1 Oreo OS out of the box. It is roughly priced at Rs 30,700.
