At its event in Noida today, Realme launched its most premium smartphone yet in the form of the Realme 2 Pro. Alongside Realme 2 Pro, the company also introduced Realme C1 as its cheapest offering yet. With Realme C1, the company is trying to challenge Xiaomi Redmi 6A, which was recently launched as the successor to Redmi 5A, the best-selling smartphone in the country.

Realme C1 came as a surprise, and it shows how more smartphone makers are now focusing more on the sub-Rs 10,000 price segment. The Realme C1 does two things differently – it features a notched display, and has the largest battery in this price segment. Here is a look at how it stacks up against the Redmi 6A.

Design and Display

In terms of design, the Realme C1 seems to be much ahead of the competition with a larger notched display. It comes with a 6.2-inch HD+ display, and a notch at the top that is similar to the one found on the Realme 2. While notch can be obtrusive at times, most consumers seem to prefer a notched display over a non-notch smartphone design.

The Redmi 6A, on the other hand, gets a standard design with a metal unibody build and at the front, it has a 5.45-inch display with taller aspect ratio. There is no denial that Realme C1 seems much better in terms of design thanks to the bigger display and a notch that makes it look identical to the more premium Realme 2 smartphone.

Specifications and Camera

Realme is offering only variant of Realme C1 in India, and it has both pros and cons in terms of hardware. The Realme C1 is powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 450, and would be much faster than competing MediaTek CPU but comes with only 2GB RAM and 16GB expandable storage. A version with 3GB RAM and 32GB internal storage would have been a better option here.

In comparison, the Redmi 6A uses a quad-core MediaTek Helio A22 SoC clocked at 2.0GHz. The Redmi 6A comes in two storage variants – 2GB RAM and 16GB storage and a 3GB RAM variant with 32GB storage. Both the phones support expandable storage up to 256GB via SD card slot.

Watch: How Realme phones are made

As far as camera is concerned, the Realme C1 gets dual rear camera setup with a 13-megapixel primary camera and a 2-megapixel secondary depth camera. The Redmi 6A has just one 13-megapixel rear camera. Both the phones feature a 5-megapixel selfie camera. Realme C1 also comes with a larger 4,230mAh battery, which should last more than the 3,000mAh battery pack found inside the Redmi 6A.

Pricing

The Realme C1 is priced at Rs 6,999 for the only storage variant that is offered in the country. The Redmi 6A comes in two storage variants with the 2GB RAM model priced at Rs 5,999, and the 3GB RAM variant priced at Rs 6,999. With Redmi 6A, consumers get more RAM and storage but miss out on bigger display and large battery.
