At India Mobile Congress last month, Realme CEO Madhav Sheth confirmed that the company will be the first to launch a smartphone with MediaTek’s newest processor. “The [MediaTek Helio P70] smartphone will not be a successor to existing Realme 2 or 2 Pro. It’ll be a different device all together, which they plan to launch by first half of December 2018,” Sheth told BGR India.
The Helio P70 from MediaTek was launched last month and it is an octa-core SoC fabricated using a more efficient 12nm process. The chipset brings new capabilities to mid-range smartphone segment including enhanced AI capabilities. The chipset also enables new camera features and faster connectivity in the mid-range smartphone segment.
Realme made its debut as a subsidiary of Oppo and then announced that it will work as an independent entity. The company currently sells four smartphones in India – the Realme 1, Realme 2, Realme 2 Pro and Realme C1. The Realme C1 is the cheapest device in its portfolio priced at Rs 7,999 while Realme 2 Pro is the most expensive device with 8GB RAM variant priced at Rs 17,990.

Under the leadership of Madhav Sheth, Realme has been growing its market share and expanding its presence in the online as well as offline markets, very aggressively. With the new U-series, it needs to be seen how the company decides to price its new smartphone as it is becoming a formidable challenger to Xiaomi in the Indian smartphone market.
