Realme is currently among the most talked about smartphone brands in India. Since commencing operations six months back, the company has managed to launch four smartphones, and claims to have sold over 3 million devices in the country. Recently, the company revealed on Twitter that it plans to release Android 9 Pie for two of its devices – the Realme 1 and Realme 2. However, the tweet has been pulled down, making a lot of Realme users wondering whether the update is even ready. Also Read - Realme 7i India launch expected soon, hints support page

For most Android smartphone users, the biggest pain point has always been software updates. Budget device makers like Xiaomi, Oppo, Vivo and Honor do not have the best track record when it comes to pushing out timely software updates. Samsung, the largest smartphone brand in the world and maker of some of the most popular Android devices, has also been sloppy with software updates. Some of the flagship devices from Samsung have received updates nearly a year after Google first makes the update official. Realme‘s tweet earlier was a welcome sign that the company is serious about software updates. Now that the tweet has been deleted, it makes us wonder whether the former Oppo subsidiary has failed to make enough headwinds with its forked version of Android Pie.

It is important to note that Realme did not tweet about the update directly but rather it was the support handle of the company that confirmed the development of Android Pie update. The confirmation came in the form of reply to a user query about the status of Android Pie update. The tweet mentioned that the update for Realme 1 and Realme 2 is “coming soon” but did not offer any specific timeline.

Realme recently started pushing out November security update for Realme 2 and Realme C1. Madhav Sheth, CEO of Realme Mobiles, has separately confirmed that the company is working on ColorOS 5.2 for its smartphone lineup. Since this update is believed to be based on Android Oreo, there is a possibility that the company wants to push this release before seeding Android Pie for its devices.
