RED Hydrogen smartphone with holographic display out in hands-on video

A hands-on video gives us a close look at the crazy RED Hyrdrogen smartphone.

Digital camera mavericks RED stepped into the smartphone arena last month with the announcement of RED Hydrogen One. The smartphone is yet to release, and currently available for pre-orders only. Priced at $1,200 (approximately Rs 77,000), the smartphone is claimed by the company to feature a holographic display. While RED has been discreet about details on the smartphone, it recently shared a prototype with YouTuber Marquees Brownie.

When RED Hydrogen was announced, the smartphone was believed to be more of a concept phone, which might not end up in markets anytime soon. However, Marquees got the chance to try the RED Hydrogen prototypes ahead of the launch, and he was quick to point out the peculiar design of the device. These prototypes in the hands-on video give a fair insight of features that would be seen on the final design.

Talking about the nitty-gritty details, the RED Hydrogen has a rear panel built from metal and kevlar. The sides of the smartphones are notched for grip. It has a 5.7-inch display with thick bezels at the top and bottom. The volume rocker is placed on the right side of the smartphone, whereas the left side has power and dedicated video recorder/camera button. At the bottom, there is the USB Type-C, and a 3.5mm audio jack. The RED Hydrogen comes with a dual-camera setup at the back with dual-LED flash placed inside the camera ring. Up front, there is a selfie snapper with LED Flash. The modular smartphone has magnetic connectors on the bottom part of the rear panel, while the RED company logo is placed above. ALSO READ: YotaPhone 3 to launch later this year, priced around Rs 22,000

The video doesn’t demonstrate the holographic viewing on the smartphone. However, Marquees could only share his reaction footage of him experiencing the same. While those who are eager will still have to wait to get up front and personal with RED’s first smartphone. For now, here’s the hands-on video by MKBHD.
