Redmi 5A: Xiaomi rolls out MIUI 9 stable update, here's how to install it

With MIUI 9, the Redmi 5A will get a simplified design and more features.

If you are a Xiaomi Redmi 5A user, you can now update the smartphone to deliver the latest MIUI experience. Xiaomi has now officially released the MIUI 9 stable OS globally. Based on Android 7.0 Nougat, MIUI 9 brings a range of improvements including split-screen feature, universal search for images based on keywords, AI Assistant integration, and more. It was only yesterday that Xiaomi announced a list of 40 smartphones that will be getting the MIUI 9 update and today, Redmi 5A users will be one of them. As for Redmi 5A users, if you have not received the notification for the update, you can head to the Updater app and check for the MIUI Global Stable ROM V9.2.1.0.NCKMIEK. In case this update is not visible, it could be on its way and you should receive it in a day or two.

To do the installation manually, you will be required to unlock the bootloader first. Once you do that, your phone should power up again with a fastboot screen. Connect your phone to a PC, download the FastBoot ROM, extract the same on the PC, and then open MiFlash tool.

Select ‘clean all’ option and then click ‘Select’ to locate the directory where you have stored the files. Once you click on ‘Flash’, it will flash the ROM and then you can reboot the device to run it with MIUI 9, Techook explains.

While the official timeline of roll out is unclear, other than Redmi 5A Xiaomi smartphones which will be compatible with MIUI9 include Xiaomi Mi MIX 2, Mi MIX, Xiaomi Mi Note 3, Mi Note 2, Mi Note, Xiaomi Mi 6, Mi 5X, Mi 5, Mi 5c, Mi 5s, Mi 5s Plus, Mi 4s, Mi 4c, Mi 4, Mi 3, Mi 2, Mi 2S, Xiaomi Mi Max 2, Mi Max, Xiaomi Redmi 5, Redmi 5 Plus, Redmi 4X, Redmi 3S, Redmi 3X, Redmi 4A, Redmi 4 (High Edition), Redmi 2, Redmi 2A, Redmi 1S, Xiaomi Redmi Note 4X, Redmi Note 5A, Redmi Note 2, Redmi Note 3, Redmi Note 4, Redmi Pro, Redmi Note, Xiaomi Mi Pad 3, Mi Pad 2, and Mi Pad.

Talking about specifications, the Redmi 5A is a budget device, priced at Rs 5,999. It sports a 5.0-inch HD (720 pixels) IPS display and is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 quad-core 1.4GHz SoC paired with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage, which can further be expanded up to 128GB using microSD card. For optics, it comes with a 13-megapixel rear camera and a 5-megapixel front-facing camera. It is fueled by a 3,000mAh battery.
