As the iPhone turns 10, Apple is gearing up to launch the special edition iPhone 8 along with iPhone 7s and iPhone 7s Plus sometime next month. Now, reports have emerged stating that Apple could be working on the refreshed version of the iPhone SE with a compact 4-inch display. The smartphone is expected to launch sometime in the first half of next year, and is likely to be released in India first, before shipping to other markets across the globe.
According to a report on Taiwanese news channel Focus Taiwan, Apple is looking forward to increasing its market share in India. Along with increasing its capacity in India, Apple is reportedly hoping to double or triple its sales over the next five years. Taiwan based contractor, Wistron Corp, which assembles the iPhone SE, is looking forward for expansion in India. It is also in talks with Karnataka government for the same.
At the recent earnings call, Apple CEO Tim Cook mentioned that he is ‘bullish’ and ‘very optimistic’ about India. “We’ve already launched an app accelerator center. That’s on top of working with the channel and looking at expanding our go-to-market in general. And we began to produce the iPhone SE there during the quarter, and we’re really happy with how that’s going. And so we’re bringing all of our energies to bear there,” Cook said. It does drop some hints to the speculation that Apple could be thinking of increasing iPhone SE production in India.
