In what appears to be a price war in the DTH sector, Reliance Big TV has announced a new offer under the Digital India initiative where it will offer access to channels at an ‘effectively free’ cost for up to five years. However, akin to the telecom operators, there’s a catch in the offer.

Reliance Big TV subscribers will get access to pay channels at no cost for the first year. This includes access to HD channels. While up to 500 FTA channels will be available for free for a period of five years.

How to get ‘free’ channels on Reliance Big TV

To avail the offer, you will have to pre-book the set-top box and outdoor unit (ODU) via Reliance Big TV website on the payment of Rs 499. You will be required to pay the remaining balance of Rs 1,500 once you receive the unit and the set-top box. Doing so, will make you eligible for free access as per the conditions for the first year.

Now, in order to claim loyalty, you will have to make a monthly recharge of Rs 300 from the second year of subscription for all channels. When you continue with your subscription to the pay channels for the next 2 years with Reliance Big TV, you will get a cashback of Rs 1,999. This amount will be provided in the form of recharge.

So if you calculate, you pay a total of Rs 1,999 on the purchase of the subscription and the first year will remain free of charge for you and give you access to all channels. From second year, you pay Rs 300/month, which adds to Rs 3,600/year. When you pay this amount for next 2 years, which adds up to Rs 7,200, you get the Rs 1,999 back, which will last for six months of recharge.

The pre-booking will start at 10 AM on March 1, 2018 on the Reliance Big TV website. It is to be noted that it is a limited period offer. Delivery of the set-top box and ODU will commence after 30 days from the date of booking. The set-top box on offer is an HD HEVC set-top-box and includes support for recording, USB port, YouTube, simultaneous recording and viewing channels, and more.
