The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has approved Reliance Jio Infocomm’s application for testing messaging feature on its 4G LTE network in India, ET claims. This will be pretty significant for the Mukesh Ambani owned company, which was recently allowed by DoT to test the voice over long-term evolution platform for another six months while its deadline for the same was set for July 16. According to the report an alleged DoT document dated July 31 states that,” For testing voice over LTE technology, availability of SMS is an important feature. So, it is desirable to test it.”
Reliance Jio is testing 4G LTE services in Mumbai, Delhi and Jamnagar on 10,000 numbers approved by the department. Moreover, the company is also planning to set up infrastructure for LTE network in Assam by 2014. Reliance Jio is expected to launch the 4G network by January next year.
