Reliance Jio is all set to get into its latest product segment, with registrations for its Jio Gigafiber broadband home internet service set to kick off on August 15. A new report suggests that the service could be priced from Rs 500 per month onwards, offering affordable, ultra high-speed internet directly at home. Furthermore, the plans are slated to include internet-based TV services, meaning that users can directly stream regular channels and programming onto TVs using the internet.
With registrations commencing on August 15, users will be able to put their names down as showing interest to subscribe to one of the plans. A report by Economic Times suggests that the commercial roll-out will be around November this year, in time for the Diwali festive season. Area-specific availability will depend on how many consumers register interest, and feasibility in those areas.
As with the wireless Jio plans and services, Jio GigaFiber will use its strong pricing to gain market share, and high-speed, heavy-usage plans for homes and offices starting at Rs 500 onwards will heavily undercut incumbent players. For now, with the exception of one other large player Airtel, the market is dominated by local providers that offer last-mile connectivity and service in areas. The access speeds will also be significantly higher than what other wired-line and wireless internet service providers offer.

The combination of internet with internet-based TV services is another key offering by the company. Currently, subscribers tend to pay for internet and cable TV services separately, and combining the two into a single access plan will bring the cost down significantly. Jio currently has agreements with many channels in India, but the key will be in how it can build upon this.
