Jio GigaFiber was announced at Reliance Industries 41st annual general meeting (AGM) held in July. The highly anticipated service marks Reliance Jio s entrance in the Indian broadband market. After transforming the telecom market, Reliance Jio is all set to make its mark in the broadband segment. According to Jio, the new broadband service will be providing download speeds of up to 1Gbps and will also be able to power the TV, entertainment and smart home devices at home. The company has been testing the service for the last 2 years and has noted it to provide 700 Mbps speeds on an average. According to Jio, it s enough to allow users to stream 4K content or run support VR applications.
Not just the, Reliance Jio is also targeting the DTH industry with its new broadband services. Along with the router, the JioGigaFiber broadband service will also be coming with a set-top box called GigaTV. It is said to offer access to over 600 channels, including thousands of movies, millions of songs, and other content. It will also have access to Jio suite of applications including, JioTV, JioCinema, JioTVCall, JioSmartLiving, JioNetVelocity, JioCloud, MediaShare, and JioStore. It is also said to come with a voice-activated remote, which is stated to support commands in multiple Indian languages.
Reliance Jio GigaFiber pricing and installation
Based on rumors, there is said to be no installation charges for Jio GigaFiber, but the company is charging customers Rs 4,500 as security deposit on the router. This is said to be a refundable amount. Not just that, the service is also set to be free for the first three months. Jio states that the installation process will not take more than an hour.
The company has not revealed any information about plans, but recent reports have suggested there to to be five plans, starting at a price of Rs 500 per month. This is said to be the base plan, which is expected to offer 50Mbps speed for up to 300GB, with a 30-day validity period. Following that, the second plan is touted to cost Rs 750 per month where users will be getting 50Mbps speeds for up to 450GB. The plan is also said to have a validity of 30 days.
The third plan will be priced at Rs 999 and is expected to come with 100Mbps internet speed with a data cap of Rs 600GB for a month. The fourth and fifth plan will be costing Rs 1,299 and Rs 1,500 respectively. Both plans also have a validity of 30 days. However, the fourth plan is expected to offer 100Mbps for up to 750GB, while the fifth plan is said to come with speeds of 150Mbps for up to 900GB.

Those who are interested in getting Jio GigaFiber broadband in their homes, can register for the service on August 15, through Jio website or MyJio app. The registration is free of cost. Users will be prompted to enter their details such as contact number, address, email account, and other things.

After the registrations, the company will be sending out an installation team to the customer s home at a certain date. However, rumors have suggested that the company will be rolling out the service to 15-20 key cities initially that have the highest demands. It will also be prioritizing localities that have the highest number of registrations before rolling out the service to everybody else.
