With 1GB data per day now available at new lowest tariff yet, Jio is compensating users of other plans with either 50 percent more data or Rs 50 discount on the recharge plan. Jio is discounting its Rs 399, Rs 459 and Rs 499 tariff plans by Rs 50. The Rs 399 recharge plan which offers 1GB data per day and has a validity of 70 days will now be available at Rs 349. The Rs 459 recharge plan with 1GB data per day and validity of 84 days is now available for Rs 399, making it the flagship tariff plan on Jio’s network. The Rs 499 recharge pack with 91GB data and 91 days validity is now priced at Rs 449.
Jio is also offering 50 percent more data benefit on four tariff plans. With a recharge of Rs 198, Jio users will now get 42GB data as opposed to 28GB data currently offered under the plan for 28 days. The Rs 398 tariff plan offers 105GB data for 70 days as opposed to 70GB data currently offered with this recharge pack. With recharge of Rs 448 and Rs 498, Jio users will get 126GB and 136GB data for 84 days and 91 days respectively. The telecom operator currently offers 84GB and 91GB data with recharge of Rs 448 and Rs 498, respectively.
These four plans now allow Jio users to avail 1.5GB data benefit per day. Jio says it is now offering 1GB data at an effective price of Rs 4, which is lower than the standard industry rate. The new tariff plan will go into effect starting January 9, 2018. Sources close to the company reveal that this is the first of many announcements from the company.
Reliance Jio has forced other telecom operators to offer free voice calls and data benefit of 1GB per day at less than Rs 500. However, 1GB per day benefit at just Rs 149 is unprecedented and will certainly put leading telecom service providers in the backseat. The telecom industry is already engaged in a tariff war and it is set to intensify further with this announcement.
