TRAI’s July subscriber addition numbers suggest that Jio was the most benefited telecom player among others to add subscribers from smaller operators shut down/merger. The Mukesh Ambani-led company took great advantage of the telco consolidation, and 4G feature phone market with its JioPhone offers.

Jio’s different offers every month has positively impacted its numbers, and the company had been continuously leading the growth when it comes to data subscriber base growth over the last year. Mobile broadband subscriber base in India grew from last year, and Reliance Jio dominated the telecom sector in July by adding over ten times more subscribers than total new customers added by rest of the players.

Reliance Jio was way ahead in speed and scale, according to TRAI’s July subscriber addition numbers. At the same time, TRAI data for active subscriber base shows that Reliance Jio still needs to work on its network to convert users in to primary telecom connection preference.

The total telecom subscriber base in July grew to 117.93 crores with a net addition of over 1 crore customers, which is even after taking in the loss of around 24 lakh customers by Tata Teleservices, Reliance Communications and MTNL jointly. In July, mobile broadband connections alone contributed 44.1 crore customers to the total number.
