It is currently not clear what HP devices are compatible with Jio’s preview program, but the website does say — “The Jio Preview Offer can be availed only on purchase of LYF powered JioFi device.” Reliance Jio had launched two mobile Wi-Fi hotspot devices last month, called JioFi. Available for Rs 1,999, these JioFi devices not only offer Wi-Fi hotspots, but also let users make HD voice and video calls via VoWiFi using the JioJoin app. BGR India tried entering the serial number of a few HP laptops but they all gave an invalid serial number error. It could be that Reliance Jio has not made the offer live, yet.
Reliance Jio has been steadily expanding its preview program to other devices from other companies. Last week, it rolled out the preview program for select Samsung smartphones, including the Galaxy Note 4, Samsung Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy Note 5 Duos, Galaxy A5 (2015) and A5 (2016), Galaxy A7 (2015) and A7 (2016), Galaxy A8, Galaxy Note edge, Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 edge, Galaxy S6, Galaxy Edge Plus, Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge.
As we reported over the weekend, Jio is also planning on extending its preview program to select Apple devices. These include the iPhone 6, iPhone 6s, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 6s Plus and iPhone SE, and the announcement could be made sometime later this week.
Despite being less than a month from a rumored launch, Reliance Jio already has over 1.5 million users. This number is only going to rise with Jio expanding its preview program to other companies. The thing to note here is that to preview Jio’s services Samsung or Apple users don’t have to buy a new smartphone.
Many are eagerly waiting for the commercial launch of Reliance Jio’s 4G services. Over the weekend we reported about Jio’s data tariffs that are eight times cheaper than the likes of Vodafone and Airtel. With such disruptive pricing, Jio is widely expected to shake up the industry, and we are already seeing some effects. Idea Cellular slashed its data tariffs for prepaid users by up to 45 percent, while Airtel is now offering up to 67 percent more data on existing prepaid plans.
