It looks like Reliance Jio is getting ready to start another telecom battle, but this time in the area of broadband connection. According to the latest report, the company is planning to launch its Fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) service buy the end of the year, which will be offering 100Mbps speeds for the price of Rs 1,000. That’s not it though, along with high speed internet, the broadband plan will also be also be offering unlimited voice calling over the internet. The company is said to be testing its fiber optic connection in Mumbai and Delhi.
Livemint reported an inside source saying, “Reliance Jio plans to enter the wired internet segment by the end of this year…and the fibre-to-the-home (services) will also come with unlimited calling through a VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) phone as well as JioTV.” He further added, “Discussions on a bundled tariff are still going on, but current talks suggest it could be under Rs 1,000 a month.”
Talking about VoIP, it a technology that enables users to make voice calls using a broadband internet connection instead of the telephone network. The government approved a proposal to permit internet telephony on 1 May.
At the same time, we’re also seeing Jio focus on improving the content on its JioTV app. The company has managed to acquire digital rights for Winter Olympics 2018, EFL Cup (Carabao Cup Final), and T20 cricket series Nidahas Trophy. Besides that, the JioTV app is already used by many to stream live TV channels on demand. In other areas of content, the telco also announced the merger of its JioMusic app with Saavn, and the acquisition of 5 percent stakes in the movie production house Eros International.

On the other hand, it looks like Bharti Airtel is also getting ready for the upcoming broadband battle. The company has already introduced a 300 Mbps connection which carries an FUP of 1200GB and is priced at Rs 2,990. A range of its plans also come bundled with Amazon Prime subscription and landline calling.
