Network and data connectivity is one of the biggest issues in India. Even six years after launch of 3G services, there are areas that suffer poor coverage, and at most places, network switches to slower 2G connectivity. To help users identify problem areas and report the same, Airtel introduced its Open Network campaign. Now, Reliance Jio is planning to do something on the similar lines. Called smart coverage map, the service will allow users to look for Reliance Jio 4G network coverage in their area before joining the network. Currently, Reliance Jio SIM card is available for free under Welcome Offer with benefits such as unlimited HD voice calling, 4GB high-speed data per day after which speed reduces to 128Kbps, and unlimited access to Reliance Jio suite of services such as JioPlay, JioCinema, JioMovies and more. However, with a lot of people joining the network, congestion is bound to happen. And if users are thinking of porting from existing operator to Reliance Jio, the smart coverage map can help them look for the quality of service in their area. The service seems to be in early beta and gradual rollout may take some time. As we can see in the screenshot above, one needs to head over to jio.com and click on Smart Coverage map link. Next, one has to enter the local address or pin code to check the Reliance Jio coverage and network strength.
The map will show you all the cell sites (network towers), and regions marked in green (excellent), yellow (good) and red (satisfactory). If you are already have a Jio connection, the bottom of the page will show that user is verified. That s not all; the interface will also allow you to send feedback to Reliance Jio about complaints you have, if any. The feature was first spotted by TelecomTalk, but when we tried using our Jio connections, we could not see the option.
