Reliance Jio, the telecom subsidiary of Reliance Industries Limited, is leaving no stones unturned to let Indian users know that they are bringing in 4G connectivity this year. After providing free 4G Wi-Fi services in select areas in Kolkata, the company is now bringing its LTE services to the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Cashing in on the IPL frenzy that is about to begin from April 8, the Mukesh Ambani owned company has set up the needed infrastructure in the cricket stadium to let the audience experience 4G connectivity for free while enjoying the match.

Citing anonymous sources, TelecomTalk reports that this initiative will serve as sort of a teaser for the 30,000 spectators to experience the new blazing fast connectivity. “Infrastructure required to Wi-Fi enable the entire stadium has been laid out already. And there certainly are plans to offer the Reliance Jio experience to cricket fans watching the matches in action. In fact, trials are already on and the company executives are working on various related aspects of delivering the high-speed internet experience,” the source told the publication.

The fact that Reliance chose Wankhede makes sense as Mukesh Ambani owns Mumbai Indians, one of the teams that competes in IPL. The team is set to play seven matches at the stadium, and the first one is going to be against Kings X1 Punjab on April 12. All the seven matches will have users experiencing the super-fast 4G network. This comes as great news, as during most matches the Internet connectivity is rather irritable, with posting on social media becoming a task. It will be a big litmus test for Reliance Jio, as it offers its new service to users who will probably experience 4G networks for the first time.

Apart from Kolkata, the company also soft launched its services at the Vibrant Gujarat Global Trade Show. Reliance Jio gave a whiff of its high-speed Wi-Fi broadband service called ‘Jionet’, and all attendees were allowed to try out the service for free.

Reliance Jio currently holds spectrum in 1800 MHz (across 14 circles) and 2300 MHz (across 22 circles) capable of offering fourth generation (4G) wireless services. It  plans to provide seamless 4G services sometime this year using FDD-LTE on 1800 MHz and TDD-LTE on 2300 MHz through an integrated ecosystem.
