Reliance Jio Infocomm is reportedly likely to launch its 4G LTE service in smaller cities like Coimbatore and Indore first, before moving to the metro cities. The company has for long been working on its 4G LTE services, and like Airtel will roll it out in stages, starting from tier II cities to bigger cities, ET reports. The company has set up infrastructure and is running trials for the service on affordable handsets and devices. It is expected to launch these services later this year, likely by September.

Reliance Jio has reportedly readied its headquarters across each of the 22 telecom circles, and will be positioning a chief technology officer dedicated to each of these offices. The company was in fact looking out for employees including 500 senior officials.

The company has pan-India licences for providing 4G LTE services on airwaves in the 2,300MHz band, and under the prevailing guidelines, must roll out these services by May 2015. It had recently also won airwaves in the 1,800MHz in the spectrum auction, which is good for providing voice over LTE service. Reliance Jio is expected to launch data-based services on 4G network on the 2,300MHz band, while it will use the 1,800MHz for voice over LTE.

If the rumor is to be believed, the company has already successfully completed trials of its forthcoming 4G services on Samsung Galaxy S4 mini handset, though there is no official word on this. Reliance Jio and Samsung have earlier been reported to be working together on affordable handset with 4G connectivity support. According to the report, unlike what was expected, Reliance Jio will not be subsidizing the handsets through bundled offers.

The company is trying to make sure that there is no lack of affordable smartphones in the market at the times of launch of its 4G services. It is also in talks with TCL Communication to launch Alcatel-branded affordable 4G phablets in India, however nothing concrete has come out of the talks as yet. Though, rumor has it that the company has already been running tests on Alcatel’s 4G dongles and smartphones.

Reliance Jio has been rigorously working on its 4G network and has been tying up with other companies for the same. It has earlier inked an infrastructure deal with Bharti Airtel, Reliance Communications, Ascend Telecom, Viom and American Tower Corp, to expand its reach and work on its network.

The company had in fact recently also announced a deal with Network18 which will help Reliance Jio in leveraging the latter’s news and general entertainment television channels and an e-commerce website for its 4G offerings.
