Late last month, Reliance Jio extended its unlimited 4G preview program by six months till November. Some reports also hinted that the company may soon open its network for everyone. While the full-fledged commercial launch of Reliance Jio’s 4G LTE network is still uncertain, the company has just taken its official website Jio.com live. The website highlights some of the key aspects of Reliance Jio’s 4G service, one part of which heavily relies on offering content services via a number of apps. The site interface is pretty clean and intuitive. On the top left corner, you have the home button and dedicated button for its apps page. The Reliance Jio logo is at the centre, whereas the right corner has the login button for existing Jio subscribers. Below this strip, you have one big block and four small blocks on the right side, acting as a shortcut for the landing page for each of Reliance Jio services. For those who are interested in getting a Reliance Jio 4G connection, the bottom has the registration form where you need to enter your details such as full name, email ID, contact number, state and city. Once registered for your interest in Reliance Jio, the company representative will call you in a few days with details on how to buy a connection.
The apps page has a list of 11 apps MyJio, JioChat, JioPlay, JioOnDemand, JioBeats, JioMags, JioXpressNews, JioDrive, JioJoin, JioMoney and JioSecurity. The MyJio app gives you an access to all Jio applications to quickly install them on your smartphone. JioChat is a chat messenger, just like WhatsApp, Hike, Viber and others. Besides text messaging, it also lets you make high quality voice and video calls with up to five users simultaneously. It also supports Emojis and Stickers to let you express yourself.
Next is JioPlay, which lets you access to the TV guide to see what s playing and watch live TV channels on the go. JioOnDemand, as the name says, lets you watch TV shows, movies and trailers across different languages and genres. JioBeats lets you stream and listed to millions of high-quality songs in over 20 different languages. JioMags includes a vast library of popular and premium magazines including Fimfare, Readers Digest, Business World and India Today among others.
There is JioNewsXpress app which is more like Flipboard it brings news from hundreds of sources including magazines, blogs and news publications in more than 10 languages. It also features an offline mode that lets you read the news later, even when network connectivity isn t available. Next is JioDrive, an app that offers cloud storage service to store all your documents, movies, videos, photos and other content online.
JioJoin app offers a smart way to make voice and video calls in HD clarity on Jio network. JioMoney is the digital wallet which lets you pay for different services, including mobile, insurance and utility bills, prepaid recharge, transfer money to other users also make cashless payments at partner outlets. Lastly, there is JioSecurity app for Android smartphones which acts as an antivirus to protect your smartphone and content from vulnerabilities.
Over the past few months, Reliance Jio s digital retail arm, Reliance Digital has launched quite a few LYF-branded handsets from Rs 3,999 to Rs 19,399 range, all of which support 4G LTE and VoLTE for HD voice calling. It is important to note that within a quarter since its launch, LYF has managed to become fifth largest smartphone vendor in India by conquering a market share of seven percent.
