With registration for Reliance JioGigaFiber Broadband set to begin on August 15, here is a compilation of all the information you need about the service and registering for it.
Mukesh Ambani, Chairman and Managing Director, Reliance Industries Ltd, announced the Reliance JioGigaFiber Broadband along with the Jio Phone 2 which incidentally will also be launching on August 15, at the AGM of Reliance last month. The company claims that the Reliance JioGigaFiber will be able to provide download speeds of upto 1Gbps and will also be able to power the TV, entertainment and smart home devices.
Reliance JioGigaFiber Broadband will open for registrations on August 15 which is not when the service will be made available though. And Reliance plans to launch the service in 1100 Indian cities initially. According to reports, the company had been testing the service for the last 2 years and the service has consistently provided 700 Mbps speeds on an average.
The company has not revealed any of the proposed plans for the Reliance JioGigaFiber Broadband yet, but according to rumors there will be an installation charge of Rs 4500. This is a refundable amount for those in areas with the network already present. And the first three months are set to free. It is expected that there might be a free tier of packages for those that have not used broadband internet yet, along with paid packages for those that have high data needs.
Reliance claims that the installation will take no more than an hour and the executives will install a Jio GigaRouter at the customer s place. This will provide wall-to-wall high speed Wi-Fi coverage that will allow users to stream 4K videos as well as play VR games online. The router will also be powering the TV and smart home accessories. The company will be installing a GigaTV set-top box that will come with a voice-activated remote. The TV experience is set to include over 600 channels, thousands of movies, millions of songs, and any other type of content possible. The apps for the GigaTV set-top box that were mentioned at the event were JioTV, JioCinema, JioTVCall, JioSmartLiving, JioNetVelocity, JioCloud, MediaShare, and JioStore.
The JioRemote that is set to come with the set-top box will have voice activation and all users need to do is tell the remote what they want to watch and the set-top box will respond. According to the company the remote will take commands in multiple Indian languages but has not given a list.
The Jio GigaFiber will also allow the users to make and receive video calls on the TV with other Jio GigaFiber users, as well as mobile phones and tablets using the Jio network. The other accessories that will work on the Jio GigaFiber network are audio dongles, video dongles, smart speakers, Wi-Fi extender, smart plugs and outdoor security cameras. Users will be able to handle their smart home devices on the Jio network from their smartphones that control lighting, temperature, gas and others.

The user will be prompted for their details such as contact number, address, email account, and other things. Apply for a new connection by providing all the details. The registration for a new Reliance JioGigaFiber Broadband connection is free, hence there is no need to make a payment at the time of registration.
