You can pre-book the Reliance Jio phone by heading over to Reliance Digital or Reliance Digital Xpress Mini stores. You can also pre-book it from the MyJio app, which can be downloaded from Google Play Store for Android, and iOS App Store for iPhones. Once the pre-bookings go live, a Pre Book Now link will show up on the app. Do note that you ll need to have an existing Jio connection to be able to pre-book a JioPhone. The JioPhone will also be able to purchase from Reliance Jio s official website, jio.com. As the initial lot will have limited quantity devices, the JioPhone will be given to customers on first-come-first-serve basis.
How much do I have to pay to pre-book the JioPhone?
While the JioPhone is effectively free”, you will have to pay Rs 1,500 as a security deposit, which will be refundable after three-years. However, for pre-booking, you ll have to pay Rs 500. You can make the payment using different modes. At the Reliance Digital stores, you can pay by cash, JioMoney or via Paytm. When using the MyJio app you can make the payment using UPI, net banking, credit or debit cards.
Reliance JioPhone specifications and features
Despite being a feature phone, the Reliance JioPhone is as smart as a smartphone. It features a 2.4-inch QVGA display running at a resolution of 240×320 pixels. The JioPhone will be powered by an SPRD 9820A/QC8905 dual-core chipset clocked at 1.2GHz, paired with Mali-400 GPU and 512MB of RAM. With 4GB of internal storage, the JioPhone also comes with a microSD card slot for expandable storage.
The JioPhone will also feature a 2-megapixel rear camera and a VGA front camera for video calling. The rear camera also supports video recording capabilities. Armed with a 2,000mAh battery, the company claims that JioPhone can offer a talk time of 12 hours and standby time of 15 days. Connectivity wise, the JioPhone comes with Bluetooth 4.1, GPS, Wi-Fi, and 4G LTE with VoLTE HD voice calling. The JioPhone also comes with NFC connectivity, which will enable contactless payment solution later this year.
The Reliance JioPhone is designed keeping Indian users in mind and the interface will be available in 22 regional languages including Hindi, Marathi, Guajarati, Bengali and more. On the software front, the JioPhone will run on Kai OS with support for Jio suite of apps including JioMusic, JioTV, JioCinema, JioVideo, JioPay, JioXpressNews and JioGames.
The feature phone will also come with Jio Assistant which will let users control the phone using voice commands. These voice commands can be used for making calls, sending text messages, play music, play movies or trailers, or perform an internet search. What s more, Reliance Jio will also be selling a specially designed media cable that will let you connect the JioPhone to your television set for screen mirroring. It will also allow you to watch your favorite movies and TV channels on the big screen.
Reliance JioPhone tariff
The JioPhone will come with Jio Dhan Dhana Dhan offer priced at Rs 153 a month. It will offer unlimited free local and national outgoing calls, and unlimited internet (cap of 500MB per day), after which speed will be throttled at 128Kbps. Reliance Jio will also be offering mini packs priced at Rs 24 with two-day validity, Rs 54 with one-week validity. And for those who wish to connect their JioPhone to their TV, the plan will be priced at Rs 309 per month.
