Well it’s that time of the year again. You know iPad leaks time. This time around the guys at RepairLabs are reporting that the iPad 3 will have a larger battery compartment, a different logic board, possibly a different camera all in the same form factor not even a millimeter thicker. Previously it was reported that the iPad 3 could be slightly thicker, so that it could encompass for the new components, but the guys at RepairLabs don’t believe so. The RepairLabs team also mentions that the screws for the LCD panel are also different than that of the iPad 2, however they don’t have any concrete evidence to support the theory of a ‘Retina Display’. On the whole the report indicates that the iPad 3 will don more or less the same form factor only with supped up internals. Interestingly the report does not talk about processors or GPUs, as it is expected that the iPad 3 will boast of a Quad-Core CPU and an upgraded GPU. Contrary to this, TheVerge is reporting that the new A6 processor in the iPad 3 will not have a Quad-Core CPU, however will have an upgraded GPU. This could very well be true as most of the latest ARM-Cortex A15 processors we have seen to date have only been dual-core processors, such as the Qualcomm Krait and Samsung Exynos. One should note that this report fits perfectly in line with Apple’s design philosophy as normally the company releases a device with a new design and then for the next generation retains the same design but upgrades it with newer internals, the iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S being prime examples of such a strategy.
