The Ricoh Theta S features two ultra-wide lenses with an angle of view of more than 180 degrees each, and the f/2.0 lenses ensure more light passes as compared to the Theta m15. Under the hood, it comes with two 1/2.3-inch 12-megapixel sensors, which both combine to stitch together a 14-megapixel 360-degree photograph. Users can also record a spherical video in full HD (1920×1080 pixels) at 30fps, with a maximum recording time of 25 minutes. Internal memory too has been doubled and now stands at 8GB, but there is no option to expand it via a microSD card. The camera connects to both iOS and Android smartphones via Wi-Fi, which is said to be four times faster than before. Ricoh has also launched a new Theta S app for iOS and Android, which lets you use the smartphone as a viewfinder and also configure different settings.
Once you have clicked a photo or recorded a video, you can either upload them on theta360.com, or share them via different social media sites like Facebook, Twitter or Tumblr. You can also directly publish 360 degree photos to Google Street View or upload videos on YouTube’s 360-degree channel.
