Royole claims this Cicada Wing foldable display will withstand 200,000+ bends. The new panel, according to the company, features nearly 100 micro-nano materials. This will reportedly improve the strain recovery and “layer peeling”, which is also the bubbles and creases seen on the display. There is a claimed 1.3x better color gamut and 500x better contrast than a LCD display.
The Flexpai 2‘s foldable display can be folded in multiple directions and even rolled when on its own. It is still not clear when the display will make its way to smartphones but it is expected in the second quarter. For now, Royole is showcasing Cicada Wing has an advanced foldable smartphone display. The first question is whether Royole will deliver the smartphone. The second being whether more smartphone makers will partner the company.
