Stock Android is usually the way to go if you want a clean and minimal user experience on your smartphones. However, a lot of OEMs continue to develop custom UI overlays and preload them on their smartphones, in order to make those devices stand out from the competition and add more features to them.
Now, OnePlus’ OxygenOS is (and always has been) considered one of the best out there, since it includes a lot of features while still providing a near-stock Android experience. In fact, OxygenOS is one of the big reasons why OnePlus’ ‘flagship killer’ smartphones are so fast and fluid. Conversely, Xiaomi’s MIUI is one of the heavier Android overlays, with a completely different user interface. But what if you could run Xiaomi’s custom version of Android on a OnePlus smartphone? Well, now you can.
A developer has ported Xiaomi’s latest MIUI 10 to work on both OnePlus 6 and OnePlus 6T smartphones. According to XDA Developers, the Android Pie-based MIUI 10 ROM, while being stable, is not completely free of issues.
Since it’s an initial release, there are a lot of bugs/issues (e.g. NFC doesn’t work, auto-rotate toggle freezes system settings, alert slider doesn’t work), but the developer notes these will be fixed in the upcoming releases.

If even that’s not enough to deter you from giving MIUI a spin on your OnePlus smartphone, you can download the ROM and flash it on your OnePlus 6 or OnePlus 6T. However, it goes without saying that in order to do that, you’ll need to unlock the bootloader of your smartphone first.
