A couple of months after releasing its 3.0 version of the Saavn Music app for iOS, the music streaming service has launched the revamped version of app for Android as well. The update brings an improved interface with tiled homescreen and features like full-screen album art in the player, and offers access to its Radio service. This version of the app has been developed to be compatible with tablets as well, which will help the company in offering a similar experience across devices in different display sizes. Saavn claims that it has over 11 million monthly users worldwide and has a music catalog of over 1 million Indic tracks for its music service. It provides content in 11 languages including Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Punjabi, English, Marathi, Kannada, Malayalam, Bengali, Gujarati, and Bhojpuri. The company also has a premium service, Saavn Pro, which is an ad-free service with offline play support.
Saavn had partnered with Shazam early this year, to expand its reach beyond India to countries like Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal, and Bhutan.
In India, the music service competes against the likes of Gaana, and operator based services like Vodafone’s Music, which was launched late last year and works on subscription-based model.
